YEAR 2008
Green Jacket Fits Like a Shoe
Dick "Shoe" Wardroper was the going away winner of this year's Green Jacket shooting a net 62 on a Northlands track under superb conditions. He finished 14 shots ahead on the runner-up Vic "Stretch" Grundy who put together his best PGA campaign and finished with a flourish but was ultimately out-flourished by the Shoe. Bob "Knuckles" Garries had a excellent come back season after suffering a severe hand injury and finished a very respectable third. Charlie Phipps playing through lots of adversity played well to finish 5th and all the while kept up his "Tuna" sense of humor. For complete details please click on "scores".
Flame On!
Playing in fire engine red caps supplied by their emotional leader, Joe "Tiki" Tibble the number one ranked Flames comprised of Tibble, Len "Fonz" Slade, Paul "Killer" Killeen and the 2008 Green Jacket winner, Wardroper, shot a team net 22 under to win this year's Calcutta and 600.00 prize money. It was an extremely close contest this year as the 2nd place Oilers (Phipps - Maynard - Schwartz - Sidonio) were only one back at 21 under to win 400.00 and the Leafs (Player - Clay - Alexander - Carter) were 2 off the pace shooting 20 under to garner the 200.00 prize highlight by BeerHead Player's eagle on #17.
Thank-yous
We had a fun and exceptional season. Special thanks to Hugh Taylor (web-site), Dave Backie (handicaps) and Joe Tibble (spares) for all their hard work and dedication. Thanks to Angry Dad/Volcano Schwartz, his wife Brenda/Ruby Schwartz and Dawgballs for our PGA ID badges. Excellent work!!
Also we thank our two rookies, Peter "Spic" Sidonio and Ken "ShitHead" Clay who played and fit in with the group very well.
A giant Thank You to Dave & Arlene Alexander for hosting the BBQ. Everyone had a great time. Sorry about the mess.
Last but by no means least The PGA would all like to thank the commissioner Tom "Chowder" Carter for all his hard work. Out of sight Chowder shouldered all the responsibility and stress of organizing every round and the trip, which made every round feel like we were receiving the "V.I.P." treatment.
Cheers Mate!!!
2009 Season Plans
The '09 season will start mid April and end in late June, however the commissioner will not make the mistake of scheduling any trips on either Mother's or Father's Day next season. The Tripper Cup location has yet to be determined but Vancouver Island, Vernon and Osoyoos are all possibilities. We will try to bring in some new courses and perhaps ones we haven't played for a bit and will strive to keep the yearly dues to the '08 level.
Smooth swinging, pars & birdies for the rest of the summer!
June 27
Schedule Change
Please note the Senators (Burns - Goulding - Murdoch - Odendaal) will tee off first at noon. The other groups will be backed up one tee time.
Gilooly Pissed
PGA officials have been contacted by legal representation for Jeff Gilooly, one time notable ice skate queen assassin, about the statements posted earlier by Vic "Stretch" Grundy seeking compensation for defamation of character. "He hired me to whack both Shoe & Knuckles" he stated.
Yeti thinks sasquatch is a fairy.
June 25
Vic speaks out
There is no truth to the rumor that me and Knuckles (being in 2nd and 3rd place in the Green Jacket race) have hired Jeff Gilooly to kneecap the Shoe.........
Shoe thinks Knuckles should give sasquatch his sweater back.
Calcutta Time!
The PGA's annual season ending Calcutta will be played this Saturday at Northlands with the forecaster predicting sunny skies and temps approaching 30 Celsius. The course is in excellent condition with the fairways running well and fast greens setting up a most memorable day for the PGA brethren.
Green Jacket Race
Everyone's Calcutta score counts in the coveted Green Jacket race but it appears that Dick "Shoe" Wardroper will not be caught. Or will he? Knuckles Garries, a former green jacket winner recently disclosed, "The Shoe's head is not right at Northlands, he had sex behind a tree once and is now always drawn to them". Anyone seeing the Shoe in the woods with his pants around his ankles is asked to discreetly report the incident to the Pro shop.
Team Rankings
Aside from the fact that no one complained about the team names the most surprising fact regarding the Calcutta is that the FLAMES have been rated the team with the best shot at winning the 600.00 first prize. Made up of Killeen - Slade - Tibble & the aforementioned Wardroper, who has a lot to play for, the FLAMERS as they are now being referred to, look hard to beat. They have tons of collective experience at Northlands and all are capable of shooting good scores. If Killer can avoid the lake on the first hole they should be off to the races.
The other teams that could tie the Flamers up (they would love that) are the Canucks (Brown - Backie - Sherk - Taylor), the Habs (Garries - Walters - Grundy - Novotny) and the Senators (Burns - Murdoch - Odendall - Goulding). IfLefty Sherk continues with his hot play the Canuckleheads look to be good for the 400.00 2nd place money as unlike the real Canucks this team looks like it can score.
The Habs look like they will be conservative and hope to "ham & egg" their way around. Communication may be a issue as Flintstone Walters, an American, is unlikely to be able to speak French and his unorthodox swing is likely to causeGarries, Grundy & Novotny into seizures of the golf kind.
Winning Tripper Cup captain Dick "OnStar" Burns, who will be either extremely loose or still drunk from retiring the day before, heads up a Senator team that is the dark horse pick of the field. The Sens have a good combination of skill and 'caps and look good especially if spare Blair "CSTM" Murdoch can figure out what Tex NoBalls and the Warthogg are talking about without having to visit South Africa.
As in real (hockey) life the Leafs and Oilers will likely be on the outside looking in. The Oilers have the personnel to score big on some holes, especially the par 5's but eventually the Pauser (Hamburgler) will drive everyone to distraction and should come with Big Macs to at least make sure no one goes hungry waiting for his down swing.
The Leafs like their NHL counterparts seem likely to be a bit confused regarding which tactics they will employ. Rather than getting top rated players like the Shoe they are left with the two heads....Beer & Shit. Not a likely successful combination when coupled with the Commissioner and Hoss, both old, lazy and not the brightest.
In the rough......play begins at noon.....one change to the schedule: The Sens will tee off first at noon......REMEMBER YOUR BBQ OBLIGATIONS....

Clan Streak Continues
The North Van Clan won its 5th Tripper Cup title in 6 years led by Captain Dick Burns defeating the WorldStars 27 - 24. It was the closest match in Tripper Cup history. Vic Grundy and Ken Sherk led the Clan charge by going undefeated during the 2 day match. The WorldStars were lead by Dick Wardroper whose match scores were 63 & 60.
Wardroper Takes Green Jacket Lead
With his Tripper Cup performance Wardroper leads the Green Jacket race by a whopping 12 strokes at 259 with the "must count" Calcutta round coming up Sat. June 28th. The "Shoe" may be the only man on tour who can actually fit into the Green Jacket. He is followed by Vic Grundy (267) & Bob Garries (270). Others who could factor in are Al "Tex" Goulding, Doug Player and Ken Sherk. Dick Burns, Tuna Phipps and Hugh Taylor are a bit further back but anything is possible on a tough Northlands track where play will be from the BLUE tees. Please see "scores" for details.
Hoss Alexander to Host Awards BBQ
Dave "Hoss" Alexander will be hosting the annual PGA Awards BBQ which will take place Sat. evening June 28th after our Calcutta at Northlands. Hoss lives close by Killer Killeen. Message From El Cid
Long time vet Blair "El Cid" Murdoch who will miss the Tripper Cup wishes all Tripper Cup players good luck with these sage words:
"Sorry I won't be at the Tripper Cup in Kamloops next weekend. As you know I have a prior commitment that I can't get out of. I shall be thinking about you guys however and hope that someone gets absolutely shit-faced and shows up with his laundry under his arm and shoots a net 59! That, to me, is what the Tripper Cup epitomizes and what it is really all about."

2010 is Now!!
This week's team game will the very popular Olympic putting & chipping game. Here are the rules:
OLYMPIC
Overview: This is a team putting game with a team consisting of two golfers, not in the same foursome. It rewards golfers who can hole their shots in one putt once getting on the green, i.e., one putts are good, two or more putts aren't. This game allows us to work on our concentration and, for some of us, our swearing.
Rules: 1. Once all members of the foursome are on the green the putts are
measured and the one that is the furthest from the hole (i.e., the person who would ordinarily putt first) scores four (4) points if sunk in one putt. If that person misses sinking on the first putt then they are out of the competition for this hole. The second furthest putt then has an opportunity to score three (3) points if sunk in one putt. Similarly, the second closest (third furthest) would score two (2) points and the shortest putt could score one (1) point again, if sunk in one attempt.
2. No points are awarded to a player if that player needs more than one putt on the hole.
3. It is possible for more than one player to score points on a hole. The rule is points are awarded for sinking in one putt and all players who do that will score points.
4. If a player sinks a ball from off the green and requires no putts then that player would score five (5) points on the hole. This would mean there would be no 4 point putt (i.e., max possible is 5,3,2,1) If two players hole out from off the green then there would be no 4 or 3 point putts (i.e., max possible is 5,5,2,1), etc.
It is suggested that a separate scorecard be utilized to maintain the Olympic scoring. Teams will be posted along with foursomes and tee times later this week.
Event Prizes - Team: 1st - 80.00 2nd - 40.00. Singles: 1st - 60.00 2nd - 40.00. KP# 17 (130 yard par 3) - 20.00
Tripper Cup Teams - Kamloops June 14/15
The Tripper Cup teams and the first round team matches (played at the Dunes) will be drawn at the 19th hole at Fort Langley. The reigning Champs are the North Van Clan who also lead the total series 4 to 1 having won last year's matches in Osoyoos. Once again the Commissioner will captain the World Stars while Dick "OnStar" Burns will lead the Clan. Each will name their co-captain at Fort Langley.
Lipouts.......Larry "Ace" Brown misses this week to play at the famed Bandon Dunes complex on the coast in south Oregon.... Doc Berstrom is attending his 35th university re-union where he is discuss "Korean Dance" in detail.....Killer Killeen returns to the tour fresh from escaping a Peruvian prison after "satisfying" his golf gambling debt with prison officials.......Tripper Cup room mates for Sat. night at The Accent Inn will also be announced at the 19th hole......
May 27
Schwartz Seizes the Day
Last year's Green Jacket winner Jeff "Volcano" Schwartz showed some of his '07 form by shooting a solid net 68 to win the PGA's fourth event of the season played under sunny skies at Golden Eagle's North course. The Volcano edged out '06 green jacket winner Bob "Knuckles" Garries who fired a net 70. Schwartz was also part of the winning Fag/pink ball game teaming with Phipps, Maynard and Alexander who managed to keep their "pinkie" until the 9th hole. Dave "Hoss" Alexander's KP reign ended with the Commissioner taking the prize with a shot to about 6 feet.
Green Jacket Race Heating Up!
The new rule whereby the Calcutta is now a MUST count toward the Green Jacket has opened the race up to almost every PGA member. Novotny, Backie, Phipps, Burns and Sherk currently lead the race but the new Calcutta rules (best 4 rounds plus the Calcutta) means the race will be fought right until the 18th hole at Northlands on June 28th.
Next Up - Fort Langley - June 7th
Our 5th event of the season will be played Saturday June 7th at the Fort Langley Golf Club. Once again our tee times will start at 11:30 am. Tee times, foursomes and the team game along with directions to the course will be posted next week.
Tight lies....Ace Brown, Tuna Phipps & Al "The Pauser" Maynard will all miss the Ft. Langley event....Ace will be playing at Bandon Dunes so we all look forward to his report on the "new Pebble Beach".....Killer Killeen will return to the tour after spending his latest vacation adventuring in Peru.....

Sunny Skies @ Golden Eagle
The weatherman is predicting sunny skies and a high of 24 for the PGA's 4th event of the season to be played this Saturday, May 24th at Golden Eagle in Pitt Meadows. Our tee times begin at 10:32 am on the NORTH course.
Pink Ball Game
The team game will be the dreaded pink ball game, "Faggot". Here are the rules as comprised by spare and former PGA veteran & gamesmeister, El Cid Murdoch :
Faggot, is a game that should be understood by most of us. It uses a pink ball. Each foursome has a faggot, bright PINK ball that is traded throughout the players.
The first player uses it on the first hole, second player on the second and so forth. The twist? The foursome is disqualified if they lose the PINK ball. This could be harsh, but after all so am I.
Please keep track of when you lose it! Here's another not so damaging twist. Keep the overall net score for the PINK ball separately as that is what we are scoring here. If there is a tie? Not a f**king chance! But if there is, we will count backwards from 18 to determine the winner!
Each player who loses the pink ball (the fag) shall be fined one pitcher of beer for those to enjoy who do not lose the pink ball.
Team Prize $$$ - 80.00 for 1st - 20.00 for 2nd (given to the player voted MVP by his team mates) Singles Prize $$$ - 1st 60.00 - 2nd 40.00 - 3rd 20.00 - KP on #15 - winner: 20.00
Foursomes/Times
10:32 - BACKIE - Leigh - Sherk - Wardroper
10:40 - PHIPPS - Schwartz - Alexander - Maynard
10:48 - PLAYER - Clay - Grundy - Goulding
10:56 - CARTER - Novotny - Walters - Murdoch
11:04 - TAYLOR - Brown - Tibble - B. Carter

The first name in CAPITALS is the team captain and responsible for collecting 10.00 each from his team mates for the prize vouchers.

Digger Leigh is back after missing two events with injury/vacation.....the 5th event of the season will be June 7th at Fort Langley Golf Club followed by the Tripper Cup matches in Kamloops June 14 & 15......

Backie Re-Sets Handicaps
The PGA's Director of Statistics, Dave Backie has reset each tour member's handicap for the 4th event of the season to be played on Saturday May 24th at the North course of the Golden Eagle Golf Club in Pitt Meadows. As expected most 'caps either stayed the same or went up a stroke or two but there were exceptions as Backie himself went down 1 to 12 and Louie "Warthog" Odendaal went from 30 to 36. The current Green Jacket leader, Al "Novocop" Novotnyremains at 25. For full details please click on "handicaps".
Green Jacket Rule Change
During long weekend PGA meetings it was decided to alter the Green Jacket race rules. In the past each member counted their best 5 rounds (out of 8) in the race for the coveted Green Jacket. This meant that in some years the most important round of the year, The Calcutta, sometimes did not count in the Green Jacket race. It was felt that the Green Jacket race could benefit from some "choke" factor so from this year forward the Green Jacket race will consist of each player's best 4 rounds plus the Calcutta round. If a player is to miss the Calcutta the last round he plays will be his "must count" round.
Golden Eagle Facts
Play on Saturday will be from the 6,150 yard White tees. Our first tee time is at 10:30 am so please arrive at 10 am so we can get organized. For directions please go to:
http://www.goldeneaglegolfclub.com/directions.cfm
The team game, foursomes and times will be posted on Thursday. The KP will be on the par 3, 160 yard 15th hole.
Snap hooks.......Killer Killeen & Doc Bergstrom will miss Golden Eagle and be replaced by spares Blair Murdoch and Bob Carter.....Novotny and Backie lead the Green Jacket race and are the only players with a stroke average under 70 (69.3 and 69.5) followed closely by Tuna Phipps (71.0) & Dick "OnStar" Burns (71.3).....for complete details please see "scores"......a big shout out to Big Dick Bourbonais a long time regular now living on Vancouver Island who lives the tour through the web-site, we hope Big Dick is doing well and perhaps we'll see him as a spare one day??
May 13
Shake & Bake!!
Playing on a cold & drizzly day one would not have predicted a long serving veteran whose back was sore would be among the leaders but that is exactly what happened as veteran Dave "Bakes" Backie flourished shooting a sterling net 64 (77 gross) to win the PGA's third event of the season. Backie's heroics also helped his team - Burns - Rutherford - Murdoch to a 2nd place finish in the Vienna team game. Vic "Stretch" Grundy and the Commissioner were runners up shooting net 70's.
SAWW Team Wins Vienna
The SAWW (Sherk - Alexander - Walters - Wardroper) won the Vienna team game posting a solid 22 under easily topping the field. Their round was highlighted by a 260 yard utility club blow delivered by Ken "Lefty" Sherk.
Please see "scores" for all scoring.

The fourth PGA event of the season will be played May 24th at Golden Eagle in Pitt Meadows. We will be playing the more difficult North course from the White tees. Our team times begin at 10:30 am. The team game and foursomes will be posted next week.

Late Withdrawals Effect Vienna Teams

1st group @ 10:30 - Burns - Backie - Murdoch
4th group @ 10:54 - Sidonio - Taylor - Grundy
If anyone has a friend that might want to spare please let Tiki know at [email protected]

Mountain Golf Beckons!
The Olympic site of Whistler and the Arnold Palmer designed Whistler Golf Club host the PGA's 3rd event to the season on Sat. May 10th. Our tee times begin at 10:30 am. PLEASE GIVE YOURSELVES AN EXTRA 30 TO 45 MINUTES AS THERE ARE DAILY/HOURLY ROAD DELAYS. Rookie Ken Clay makes his PGA debut and will play under the close scrutiny of the Commissioner. The two other rooks, Doc Bergstrom and Peter Sidonio also return to the tour after missing at Mayfair.
NovoCop - Early Green Jacket Leader
Al "NovoCop" Novotny is the early Green Jacket leader with a two event combined score of 133. Veterans Ken "Lefty" Sherk and Dick "OnStar" Burns are 10 strokes back at 143 followed by Killer Killeen who sits at 144. Each player counts his top 5 of 8 rounds in the annual Race for the coveted Green Jacket.
Whistler Looks Just Like Vienna
The team game at Whistler will be "Vienna" the 1-2-3 game with the following rules:
Vienna is a simple enough side game. It makes a round of golf as easy as a waltz in the park. 1-2-3, 1-2-3 and so it goes.
First hole count the best one score of the foursome and circle it for Backie's ultimate benefit.
Second hole count the best two scores and circle them.
Third hole count the best three scores and circle them.
Repeat as necessary until the entire 18 hole dance is completed.
Winning foursome gets $60, second group gets $24 and third group gets $16.
Aaaaaand 1-2-3, 1-2-3

******FLASH******
This just in Novo is now a 25
(Al we told you not to hit the green on 15 in front of the Director of Statistics and Handicaps)
April 30
NovoCop Wins at Mayfair
Al "NovoCop" Novotny withstood the lowering of his 'cap by 10 shots to win the PGA's second event of the season at Mayfair Lakes by firing a splendid net 63. His game did not falter on the back 9 when the winds came up and he also led his team (Backie - Taylor - Burr - Novotny) to victory in the Reverse Rookie game with a score of 8 under. He has now no doubt earned another handicap reduction.
Tuna Phipps finished 2nd in the singles shooting a solid net 70 on his season debut and Bob "Knuckles" Garries also playing on tour for the first time in over 11 months after his hand injury struggled to post an 80. Dave "Hoss" Alexander won the KP on #12 with a shot into the wind that finished about 20 ft away.
For all the details please click on "scores".
Next Up: Whistler Golf Club - Sat. May 10th - 10:30 am
The third event to the season will be played at the Arnold Palmer designed and original Whistler course, The Whistler Golf Club. Our tee times begin at 10:30 am. Please give yourself and extra 45 minutes for travel as there are usually 20 to 30 minutes of wait time due to the road construction as crews are working 7X24.
Some players are staying overnight on Saturday and playing elsewhere on Sunday before driving home. THOSE WHO ARE NOT STAYING PLEASE LET THE COMMISSIONER KNOW VIA EMAIL ([email protected]) SO WE CAN PUT THOSE GOING HOME ON SATURDAY IN THE FIRST GROUPS.
If you need a spare please contact Joe Tibble at [email protected]
The foursomes and team game will be posted next week.
In the rough.....kudos to the Tuna for setting up the Whistler event....Digby Leigh was a late scratch at Mayfair due to a sprained ankle....members Bergstrom and Sidonio are expected back for the Whistler event....nice to have Dave Backie back in the fold and also great to see one time vet Blair Murdoch at Mayfair......Blair has advised that he is available to spare at the Whistler event.......did you notice NovoCop giving away the golf balls he bought with his winning vouchers?....there's a guy going for some good golf karma.....
VETERANS RETURN TO TOUR
Four long time veterans will make their '08 debuts at Mayfair Lakes on Saturday. Our Director of Statistics, Dave "Bakes" Backie is back to resume his duties and will no doubt be having a peak at the "declared" 'caps in regard to some fine tuning of handicaps and long time regular Blair "El Cid" Murdoch who is sparing this year will also bring his game (honed in Mexico) suntan and humor to the Les Furber Richmond layout. Charlie "Tuna" Phipps and Bob "Knuckles" Garries both return after challenging health issues.
REVERSE ROOKIE GAME
The team game for Mayfair will be a new version of the old ROOKIE game. Since we have only two rookies this year (both Peter Sidonio & Ken Clay will miss Mayfair) the longest serving Vets will lead each foursome. The rules are simply enough:
The Veteran records his net score on every hole. After the tee shots on each hole but before any 2nd shots are played the Vet must choose his scoring partner for that hole. The trick here is that each of the 3 team mates in the foursome must have their score counted six times. The net score of the Vet and the Chosen One must be recorded on each hole. In the past Rookies have become disoriented and confused and I have failed to include each team mate for 6 holes. We trust that the Vets will fair much better. Teams that screw up will be sanctioned a pitcher of beer.
TEE TIMES & FOURSOMES (Vets or Captains in Capitals are responsible for getting 10.00 each from their foursome for the prize pool and giving the cash to the Commissioner at the 19th)
Noon - BACKIE - Taylor - Novotny - Goulding
12:08 - BURNS - Leigh - Odendall - Murdoch
12:16 - KILLEEN - Player - Schwartz - Tibble Sr.
12:24 - CARTER - Wardroper - Maynard - Garries
12:32 - BROWN - Walters - Tibble Jr - spare
12:40 - SHERK - Phipps - Grundy - Alexander
PRIZE POOL CHANGES
We will no longer award cash to the team and individual winners. Winning teams and players will receive gift certificates from PERFECT LIES in 20.00 increments. The gift certificates are good at any PERFECT LIES store and can be accumulated and used anytime.
In the woods......play at Mayfair will be from the 6,169 yard white tees with a slope of 122 and a rating of 69.7....thanks to Killer Killeen for setting things up at Perfect Lies.....as you can see the web-site is back up and running.....
Burns & Player Share Win
The PGA opened its season at Redwoods in Langley on the first truly warm day of spring with Dick Burns & Doug Player sharing the win both posting net 66's. Despite playing winter rules the soft conditions took a toll with most of the field.Jeff Schwartz got off to a rocky start in his green jacket defence and could only manage 83. The tour's two rookies, Craig Bergstrom and Peter Sidonio, managed 79 & 77 respectively. The other notable score for the day was the net 70 posted by Al Novotny on his 50 'cap.
Super spares Len Slade (68) & Jay Merilees (69) teamed to shoot a solid 64 to win the "Blair Murdoch" team game. Burns also won the long drive at #18 while Merilees hit it to 10 ft to win the KP on #12.
Next Up: Mayfair Lakes - April 26
The second event of the season will be played at Mayfair Lakes in Richmond with tee times starting at noon. It will be the first time the PGA has visited the Les Furber design that was once the May family farm. Furber's design is an easy walk and features lots of water, large greens and was the venue for the old Telus Open on the Canadian Tour for several years.
Phipps &.......Garries (yikes) Debut
The Mayfair event will mark the season debuts for two former green jacket winners. Charlie "Tuna" Phipps is humping down from Whistler and much to everyone's surprise '06 winner Bob "Knuckles" Garries returns to the tour after months of rehabbing his severely damaged hand. Both Tuna and Knuckles have gone through a lot the past while and we look forward to having them back on tour!
Reverse Rookie Game
The game for Mayfair will be an old game with a new twist. The rules will be the same as the Rookie game but it will be reversed with the 6 longest serving members captaining each team. The Captains will be: Backie - Burns - Brown -Killeen - Sherk - Carter.
The details for the game, teams and tee times will be posted next week.
On the dance floor......thanks to Killer Killeen for stepping in with the scoring at Redwoods....Director of Statistics, Dave Backie will return to the tour at Mayfair and no doubt some members can expect 'cap adjustments.....Doc Bergstrom will miss the Mayfair event but returns for Whistler on May 10th.....we hope to have the web-site back up and running later this week....thanks to 150.00 in bevvy vouchers donated by Redwoods we came away with 140.00 after the 19th hole wrapped up that will be put in a contingency fund for the annual BBQ & prizes....many thanks to all the winners for returning their winnings to the 19th hole......
Killer Killeen Gets a Perfect Lie!!
Please read the news below. Thanks to Killer we can all benefit by simply mentioning our Pretender Golf Association group when shopping at Perfect Lies to receive credits which turn into more prizes.
The Pretenders Golf Association has been registered with Perfect Lies Golf Stores.
What this means is that anyone (you, your spouse, your relatives, your friends, the guy on the sideway asking for a quarter for coffee) who says they are with the Pretenders Golf Association when they shop at any Perfect Lies store will benefit our PGA group. When you identify yourself the full value of your purchase will be credited to the
Pretenders Golf Assoc. At the end of the year Perfect Lies will rebate a portion of the purchase amount to the PGA to purchase prizes.
All that is needed is that you (or anyone you can convince) states they are with the Pretenders Golf Association when paying for any purchase in the store. There is no obligation on anyone's part other than letting them know you are part of the group.
So, if you shop at Perfect Lies anytime do not forget to mention the Pretenders Golf Association (they were a bit hesitant to register us as the PGA).
Thanks again for the great work Killer!!
PGA Schedule Confirmed
The 2008 PGA schedule is confirmed and features a few first time venues. Gone is long timer Swan-e-set and the Tripper Cup matches will return to Kamloops for the first time in 3 years. Here is our full schedule with tee times:
April 12 - Redwoods - 11:30 am
April 26 - Mayfair Lakes - noon
May 10 - Whistler - 10:30 am
May 24 - Golden Eagle (North) - 10:30 am
June 7 - Fort Langley - 11:35 am
June 14 - The Dunes (Kamloops) - noon
June 15 - Kamloops Golf Club - 10 am
June 28 - Northlands (annual Calcutta) - noon
Event # 1 - Redwoods - April 12th
The season opener is now only 10 days away, set for Sat. April 12th at Redwoods in Langley. Our tee times begin at 11:30 so please be at the course no later than 11:15.
The team game will be "The Blair Murdoch", a 2 man team net score game. Prior to teeing off each team will designate one player whose net scores will count on the odd numbered holes (The Blair) while the other team member must have his score count on all the even holes (The Murdoch). Teams will be posted next week.
Roster Set
With the inclusion (once again) of rookie Ken Clay we now sit at 23 regulars including other rookies Doc Bergstrom & Peter Sidonio. Returning to regular status after sparing last year are Tiki Tibble and Doug "BeerHead" Player. We will go forward with 23 regulars at this point and fill in each week with a spare.
Handicaps
Director of Statistics, Dave Backie will miss the season opener but devised a new method of creating the season opening handicaps. Each player will submit by Wed. April 9th via return email to the Commissioner his own handicap which will be used for the opening event. We trust our PGA motto "non scamus non shankus" to come into play here as each player's 'cap will be reviewed prior to the 2nd event at Mayfair Lakes. Any player who fails to declare his handicap will have one assigned to him by the Commissioner for the Redwoods event.
Hole outs.....Killer Killeen returned recently from Mexico where he was playing El Tigre in preparation for the season.....Lefty Sherk has been travelling quite a bit out of the country (without his cheque book) and will avoid being sanctioned (late dues) for that reason...the website should be online soon....teams for the Blair Murdoch will be posted next week......
June 23

We will have his address and directions posted next week. More information regarding appetizer's etc will also be posted next week. Kudos to the Hoss for stepping up and to Vic Grundy who is bringing enough Salmon to feed about 20 or Hugh Taylor & Jeff Schwartz.

In my hand I hold a ball....white anddimpled, rather small....Oh , how bland it does appear...this harmless looking little sphere....By its size Icould not guess...the awesome strength it does possess....But since I fell beneath it's spell....I've wanderedthrough the fires of hell..My life has not been quite thesame....Since I chose to play this stupid game..It rulesmy mind for hours on end...A fortune it has made me spend..It has made me swear and yell and cry....I hate myselfand want to die....It promises a thing called par....IfI can hit straight and far....To master such a tiny ball....should not be very hard at allBut my desires the ballrefuses....and does exactly like it chooses....I t hooksand slices, dribbles and dies.and even disappears before myeyes....Often it will take a whim....to hit a tree ortake a swim..With miles of grass on which to land....itfinds a tiny patch of sand....Then has me offering up mysoul....if only it would find the hole....It's made mewhimper like a pup....and swear that I will give it up....And take a drink to ease my sorrow....but the ballknows... I'll be backtomorrow!!!!

They will not be sanctioned. Our first tee time is at 11:30 am so please arrive accordingly. For directions to the course please click:

Next Up: Golden Eagle North
The fourth PGA event of the season will be played May 24th at Golden Eagle in Pitt Meadows. We will be playing the more difficult North course from the White tees. Our team times begin at 10:30 am. The team game and foursomes will be posted next week.
Hooks & Fades......Killer Killeen and Doc Bergstrom will miss the Golden Eagle event but once again Blair "CSTMoose" Murdoch will step up sparing for the vacationing Killeen....the good looking person (the only one) at the 19th hole at Whistler was Mrs. Doc Bergstrom....nice meeting Mike "Piglett" Odendaal who did a great job sparing for his Dad "WartHogg"......Al "NoBalls" Goulding amazed the first tee crowd hitting his Kiwi "rugby" golf balls straight down the middle,"I'm not going to putt with them" quipped NoBalls.....also nice to see Will "Cowboy" Rutherford out as an 11th hour spare to help his team finish 2nd in the team game.....WartHogg Odendall and Al "Hamburgler" Maynard are expected back for the Golden Eagle event as is Digger Leigh....
May 8
Late Withdrawals Effect Vienna Teams
Louie "WartHogg" Odendaal & Al "Hamburgler" Maynard have withdrawn from the Whistler event and currently we have not been able to find spares despite yeoman effort by our Spares Director, Tiki Tibble. 4th group @ 10:54 - Sidonio - Taylor - Grundy

May 6th
